Sister Mary Corde Somma -- THE NUN -- puts the Vulcan Death Grip on Al Willen ('71).

"A few years previously, I had taken up the Alto Sax ... and hated it! But in my Freshman Year, I was drafted to play Tenor Sax, and loved it! (Go figure.) I eventually learned to love the Alto, too. (Maybe because it was the only kind I could afford.)" -- A.W.

"There were 4 great things about this clarinet: First of all, it was originally owned by clarinet legend Artie Shaw. Secondly, it came with a cool-looking white mouthpiece. Thirdly, the keys were made of solid silver. But most importantly, it had a really 'wide' mellow sound. I practice so hard that eventually I wore through the keys, and bit a hole completely through the mouthpiece. (I still have that "biting problem" which is one reason why my mouthpieces are now made of either crystal glass or metal.)" -- Al Willen
[L to R]: Omar Castanos ('70 Trumpet), Al Willen ('71 Clarinet & Sax), Tony Emmanuel ('70 Trombone).
"Most of my dearest friends are from Mater Christi's musical ensembles, and I count Omar, Tony and Joe D'Onofrio [not pictured] as my 'big brothers' ... the best of the best! I'd do anything for them." -- Al Willen
