Ever notice how life can be more exciting than fiction, but fiction is merely life -- as one philosopher has said -- with “the boring parts taken out?” Now is our chance as “gods” in this cyber universe to create mini-universes where anything is possible, including supernatural events. The ticket is your imagination.
For years I have wondered how much “freedom of choice” I really have. Is this game called life pre-determined/pre-destined, or, do I have absolute control of the nuances and intensity of my experiences here in this material world? Gods We Be is my personal conclusion to very real question, but in a mythical environment. You see -- and this is my view -- I believe that we are all “preprogrammed” with our innate abilities and liabilities ... and given master events (roles) to play out, BUT, how we perform our roles (THE PROCESS OF LIVING) is totally within our command. As living, cognitive beings we can change our programming along life’s path.
That’s what Gods We Be is: The ability to create something -- in this case, part of a story -- and then have random events (i.e. other writers) redirect or intensify the story’s navigation. Just like real life!
I often marvel on how a book -- any book, really -- can be interpreted in a myriad of different ways, by different readers. For example, Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” has been made into dozens of movies, yet, none of these movie treatments matches the version in my mind. We have “sexy” vampires (Frank Langella, Gary Oldsfield), distinctive vampires (Bella Lugosi), monstrous vampires (Christopher Lee, Kinski), vampires that are almost “human” (Nick Knight et al). Wouldn’t it be marvelous for all the “directors” of these movies to be able to create their version of Dracula, simultaneously.
Wouldn’t it be magical for you, as a writer, to be able to spin a tale into different fragments, different universes, so that readers can see “all the possibilities?” I think so, and that’s the point behind Gods We Be.
Now start thinking ... and writing!
